Physical Education & Sport
At St Uny School children enjoy a wide range of sporting opportunities. As well as enjoying 2 hours of P.E. during curriculum time, an enviable range of after-school clubs are available to the children. Clubs on offer in Key Stage 2 include football, hockey, netball and cross-country in the autumn and spring terms; whilst in the summer athletics is on offer as well as rounders. After school clubs are also offered for children in Key Stage 1 and include Multiskills Club. Children enjoy competing in a range of local leagues and St Uny has a reputation for achieving success in many sports. In 2013/4 we got into the finals of the Penwith hockey league, won the Penwith rounders league, and 15 children qualified for the county cross-country and athletics events!
Children also have the opportunity to participate in less traditional sports such as surfing, and all available places for our summer after-school club offered to Year 5 and 6 pupils are always taken.
Swimming is very popular among the pupils here, with many of them members of St Ives Swimming Club and St Ives Surf Lifesaving Club. Their commitment shows in local competitions and we have won the Penwith large schools swimming gala for the last six years. In 2014 we entered two teams into the regional south-west England Schools Swimming Association competition held at Millfield School in Somerset. Both teams qualified for the national finals and we took 8 children up to Sheffield to compete against the best schools in the country. They did an amazing job with the boys teams making the final in one event. It was a brilliant experience as the children got to swim in a national venue where many of their swimming heroes had swum before them. We are really proud of their achievements.
